ABOUT US
We were established in 2019 under the name 1st Class Football Academy, and continued, successfully, as this for 18 months.
During this time we continually had parents expressing an interest in attending the classes, even though their child wasn’t interested in football. On speaking with other parents they had heard that the classes were a lot of fun for the kids.
We did some research and found a survey that said, “for every child that goes in to a sporting activity there are between 10 and 15 that don’t.”
This is when we decided to change the business to 1st Class Kids Activity Club. We turned our football classes into fun physical activity classes, which meant that our classes now catered for every child and not just those who wanted to learn football. We passionately believe that every child deserves the chance to take part in physical activities and to have some fun.
We have continued to offer these classes for the past 2 and a half years but have seen a big drop in the numbers of children coming along, mostly due to the financial turmoil that many families are experiencing.
As a result of this, and after long deliberation, we decided to convert the business to a Community Interest Company thus changing the name to 1st Class Kids Activity Club CIC. We are now a not-for-profit business, which means that all profits must be invested back in to the business and not used for personal gain.
This change will hopefully help us secure some much needed funding, which in turn will help us reach our ultimate goal of making every class affordable for every child and every family.

OUR GOALS
To give ALL children the chance to take part in our fun, physical activity sessions by making them affordable for every family.
By securing funding, sponsorship, fundraising and from our JustGiving page, our ultimate goal is to reduce the price of each session to £1 per child.
Every child deserves the right to take part in physical activity and every child deserves the right to have some FUN. Please help us to make this happen.
THE BOSS
My name is Phil Chandler, I am the founder and owner of 1st Class Kids Activity Club CIC.
I started the business in 2019 as a football academy, which was successful, but after 18 months, following conversations with parents and many hours of research, decided to change direction. My research showed that for every child who develops a sports skill there are many other children who don't, and some don't want to.... but they do have one thing in common, they all want to have fun! So combining exercise with games and making it fun seemed like something I could do and so the activity club was born.
Having been extremely active as a child I knew the importance that exercise played in my health, mental wellbeing, confidence and social skills. As an adult, and a cancer survivor, the importance of exercise has played an even bigger part in my life.
Since my illness I have successfully completed the Edinburgh and Fort William marathons along with several half marathons, all after a time when I thought I would never walk properly again.
For me, my passion for sport and exercise has made me realise that I can help children awaken their passion, not just for sport but all forms of exercise, and they can have fun at the same time too.
Before my cancer I had worked with Royal Mail for over 20 years, but was medically retired when it became apparent that I may have difficulty walking properly. I overcame this with exercise, mainly running, but exercise in general made me feel better on many levels.
I had been working for a few years doing various different jobs when I had a chance meeting with someone likeminded who offered me the opportunity to participate in football classes with young children. I jumped at the chance and after several months branched out on my own as 1st Class Football Academy.
Hundreds of children have come along to many different classes since those early days. I take great pride in the knowledge that I have helped many of those children, not only physically but mentally and socially too. Long may this continue.
